A 90-year-old Aurora man died five days after he was injured in a crash in the west suburb.

Arnold G. Breitung died at 3:54 a.m. Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, according to a statement from Aurora police. He lived in the 1100 block of Drury Lane in Aurora.

He was driving west on Indian Trail Road and trying to turn south onto Mansfield Drive about 2 p.m. Saturday when his vehicle suddenly turned back to the right at a high speed, police said. It ran over a curbed median, continued across the westbound lanes, went up the curb on the north side of Indian Trail and hit several trees and bushes.

The vehicle came to a stop after it crashed into a large tree in a back yard in the 1200 block of York Court, police said.

Breitung, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, suffered head and spine injuries in the crash, according to police. There was no one else in the car.

The DuPage County coroner’s office determined that Breitung died from the injuries he suffered in the crash, police said. No autopsy was performed.
