An on-duty Chicago Police officer shot a dog Saturday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The officer fired a shot and struck the dog at 5:23 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Marshfield, according to Chicago Police. The dog bit a child, who was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Additional information was not immediately available.
