The daughter of a 78-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a UPS truck two months ago in the Northwest Side Pulaski Park neighborhood has filed a lawsuit against the shipping company.
About 4:45 p.m. Aug. 22, Mayya Medovaya was crossing Peterson Avenue from the northwest corner of Central Park when she was hit by the truck as it turned right from westbound Peterson onto Central Park, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Medovaya, of the 5800 block of North Pulaski, died at Swedish Covenant Hospital 20 minutes later, authorities said.
The suit also lists driver Jackie Clay as a defendant. The 64-year-old man was ticketed for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said.
“UPS is aware of the lawsuit that was filed late last week, and we do not comment on active litigation. We certainly are sad for the loss to the family,” a company spokeswoman said.
The wrongful death suit, brought by daughter Yelena Dudko, is seeking more than $50,000 in damages.
