A northwest suburban man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child he knew in 2014.

Paul L. Martin, 39, pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault and was sentenced to 18 years in prison, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

Martin sexually assaulted a child he knew who was younger than 12 years old on Nov. 29, 2014, according to the statement.

Martin, of Elgin, must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, according to the statement. He will receive credit for 507 days served in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest.
