An actor who appears on the television show “Empire,” which is filmed in Chicago, appeared in a Cook County courtroom on Thursday, charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.
In a news release, police say 46-year-old Morocco Omari was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
According to a police report, officers were called to the Hyde Park neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side by a 24-year-old woman who identified herself as Omari’s girlfriend. She told officers Omari pushed her to the ground several times during an argument, causing scratches on her neck and chest.
The police report also notes that the victim had a visible bruise on her neck.
Omari was released on a personal recognizance bond, according to court records. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 20.
A representative for Omari did not immediately return a call for comment. According to IMDb.com, Omari is a Chicago native.
On the show, Omari plays FBI Agent Tariq Cousins. He’s the half-brother of Lucious Lyon, who’s played by Terrence Howard.
