4-year-old boy among 16 wounded in city shootings Wednesday

At least 16 people, including a 4-year-old boy, have been wounded in shootings Wednesday on the South and West sides.

The 4-year-old boy was walking with his mother in the 1500 block of South Trumbull Avenue at 6:50 p.m. when they saw a group of men arguing on the block and then heard shots, according to Chicago Police. When the two made it home, the boy told his mother that he had been shot in the right foot. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

A 6-year-old boy also suffered a cut to his finger as a result of the shooting but was not actually struck by gunfire, police said. He was treated at the scene.

The most recent attack happened at 11:10 p.m. in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

A 25-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 5200 block of West Harrison Street at 11:10 p.m. when another vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots, striking the man in the abdomen, police said. The man showed up at Loretto Hospital, but was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

About two hours earlier, a man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 30-year-old man was shot in the right calf about 9 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Yale, police said. He took himself to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized. The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known because the man was giving investigators conflicting accounts of what happened. A police source said he is a documented gang member.

About an hour and half earlier, a man was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

The 21-year-old was shot in the right calf about 7:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of West 21st Place. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

About 5:15 p.m., a 19-year-old man was standing outside in the 200 block of South Lavergne when a light-colored van pulled up and several people got out with weapons, shooting the man in the foot as he tried to run away. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Half an hour earlier, a 27-year-old man was shot in the right knee while getting out of a vehicle in the 13100 block of South Champlain in the Riverdale neighborhood. He took himself to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

At 4 p.m., two men, ages 19 and 22, were in the Austin neighborhood’s 4900 block of West Walton when they each were shot in the buttocks, police said. They showed up at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where their conditions were stabilized, but they weren’t cooperating with investigators.

About 3:30 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot on the Near West Side. He heard shots and felt pain in the arm in the 300 block of South Western Avenue, and then took himself to Mount Sinai, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

Just after 3 p.m., two men were shot in West Englewood. The 20- and 25-year-old were on the front porch of a home in the 5600 block of South Wolcott when someone opened fire from a dark-colored car, police said. The older man was shot in the face and left leg, and the younger in the right leg. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized.

About noon in Park Manor, a 24-year-old man walking in the 400 block of East 71st Street was shot by someone who jumped out of a gold vehicle and fired three shots, according to police. The victim was shot in the left leg and taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Two and a half hours earlier, another man was shot in the leg in the West Pullman neighborhood. The 23-year-old was shot in the left leg in the 500 block of West 119th Street at 9:18 a.m., police said. His condition was stabilized at the scene.

About 7:15 a.m., a man was discovered shot in his vehicle in the Washington Heights neighborhood. A neighbor found the 45-year-old with a gunshot wound to the neck in the 9500 block of South Green Street, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The victim told investigators he had been shot sometime the night before by an armed suspect during a robbery.

About the same time, a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg in the North Lawndale neighborhood in the 1300 block of South Christiana, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

Wednesday’s first shooting happened at 3:05 a.m. in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. A 33-year-old man was standing on the corner in the 6300 block of South Richmond when someone opened fire from a passing vehicle, police said. He was shot in the arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
