Two people were wounded, one of them critically, in a shooting that happened near a preschool in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Wednesday afternoon on the South Side.

Shortly before 2 p.m., the victims were with two other men in a car in the 5400 block of South Loomis when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

They drove to Holy Cross Hospital after the shooting. A 20-year-old man who had been shot in the chest was transferred in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, along with a 16-year-old boy who was shot in both arms. The boy’s condition stabilized, police said.

Two other men, ages 20 and 24, were treated at Holy Cross for what police initially thought were gunshot wounds, but doctors determined they were injured by shattered glass. Their conditions were stabilized.

The 24-year-old and the man in critical condition have documented gang ties, police said.

Computer Preschool Academy is listed at 1400 W. Garfield Blvd., on the southwest corner of the block where the shooting happened. Phone calls to the academy went unanswered Wednesday afternoon.

Police would not confirm media reports that a window in the school was shattered by gunfire.
