Garage fire does $100K damage in Buffalo Grove but home saved

A garage fire caused about $100,000 in damages in northwest suburban Buffalo Grove early Friday, but a quick fire response saved the main structure of the home.

Firefighters were called at 2:01 a.m. to a garage attached to a home in the 700 block of Lehigh Lane, according to the Buffalo Grove Fire Department.

The first crews arrived at 2:04 a.m. from Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights to find heavy fire in the garage.

They used multiple hoses to douse the fire and keep it from spreading to the single-family, two-story home, a statement from the fire department said. The home’s occupants had already self-evacuated.

The incident was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm and firefighters from Lincolnshire/Riverwoods, Palatine, Lake Zurich, Rolling Meadows and Long Grove assisted. The fire was under control at 2:24 a.m.

The garage and two vehicles inside were heavily damaged, but the inside of the home sustained only “moderate smoke damage,” according to the fire department. No injuries were reported, and the residents were able to stay in the home.

Damage was estimated at $100,000, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
