Gary police are seeking a 55-year-old man as a person of interest in a northwest Indiana shooting and are asking for the public’s help to locate him.

At 8:17 a.m. Saturday, officers found a 47-year-old man shot in the abdomen in the 500 block of Ralston Street, according to Gary police.

Joseph Raymond Harris, known as Ray, is wanted for questioning about the shooting, police said. Harris was described as a 220-pound, 5-foot-9, black man.

He is known to frequent the Brunswick area of west Gary, police said. Harris should be considered armed and dangerous, and members of the public should not try to detain him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Gregory Wolf at (219) 881-1210, or call the crime tip line at (866)-CRIME-GP.
