Donald Trump reversed himself Friday and acknowledged the fact that President Barack Obama was born in the United States.

Trump did not apologize for questioning whether Obama was born in the U.S. or describe how this thinking evolved on the issue.

Trump also blamed the Hillary Clinton campaign for starting the birther issue during her presidential campaign in 2008, an assertion which is not true.

Trump also said of the “birther” movement: “I finished it. You know what I mean.”

The Republican nominee has for years been the most prominent “birther,” the name given to those who propagated the falsehood that Obama was born outside of the country.

Trump’s comments came after an interview with the Washington Post earlier this week in which he refused to answer the question of whether he believed Obama was born in the U.S.

In a series of tweets, Hillary Clinton blasted Trump’s assertions, saying “he just can’t take it back.”
