All lanes of the inbound Chicago Skyway were reopened Thursday morning, more than six hours after a semi rolled over on the South Side and began leaking fuel.

A driver lost control of a semi tractor and trailer, which rolled over on inbound I-90 near 80th Street about 12:30 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

The driver got out of the truck on his own and refused medical treatment at the scene, Langford said.

One of the semi’s fuel tanks ruptured when it overturned, causing it to leak fuel onto the embankment and prompting a hazardous materials response, according to Fire Media Affairs. There were about 150 gallons of diesel fuel in the truck at the time of the crash.

Crews worked overnight to pump the remaining fuel from the undamaged tank before flipping the tractor and trailer back upright and removing the wreckage from the scene, fire officials said. All inbound lanes were closed for several hours after the crash, but they had been reopened as of 7:10 a.m.
