The downtown area remains the hot spot for parking tickets, followed by the area around Wrigley Field, according to a ward-by-ward breakdown of tickets issued during the first seven months of this year.

As the city reported a decrease in the number of parking tickets being written, more parking enforcement aides have been assigned to weekend duty in Chicago.

“I think we’re gonna see some great success,” City Comptroller Erin Keane said of the additional weekend parking enforcement. “We’re targeting areas where businesses are impacted the most and residents are impacted the most because people are parking there when they don’t have the stickers they should and they’re violating the meters.”

Three wards with the fewest tickets are on the South Side: the 10th, the 18th and the 19th.

The number of parking tickets issued through July 31 was down 5 percent, to 1.31 million, compared with the same period a year earlier. Parking ticket revenue is usually about $185 million a year.
