A 36-year-old man was seriously wounded during a shooting early Friday in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

About 1:30 a.m., the man was in the backyard of a residence in the 4900 block of West Monroe when he heard shots and felt pain, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to the right hip and chest, police said.
