A man has been charged with burglarizing a northwest suburban Elgin home Friday morning.
Hunter J. Stone, 18, faces one count of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and obstructing a police officer, a Class A misdemeanor, according to a statement from Elgin police.
Someone called police at 10:17 a.m. Friday and said they saw a person rip a screen from a home in the 1900 block of College Green Drive and climb in through the window, police said.
Officers set up a perimeter around the home and then saw someone leaving the front door carrying a bag full of proceeds, police said.
The burglar was apprehended and, although he gave a false name at first, was later identified as Stone, police said. When the homeowners arrived at the scene, they told authorities that no one had permission to be in the house.
Stone, who lives in the 1900 block of Muirfield Circle in Elgin, appeared in Kane County court Saturday morning and was ordered held on a $10,000 bond, police said.
