A man has been charged with robbing a business at knifepoint Wednesday afternoon in northwest suburban Elgin.

Eugene R. Tasior, 56, was charged with armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, according to a statement from Elgin police.

Officers responded to an armed robbery at a business in the 0-100 block of Clock Tower Plaza about 1:30 p.m., police said.

An employee reported that a man entered the business, pulled out a knife and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. The employee was not hurt.

Detectives identified Tasior as a suspect and arrested him outside his home in the 800 block of Bode Road in Elgin, police said. He had cocaine on him at the time of the arrest.

“The hard work and fast actions by members of the Elgin Police Department quickly brought a violent offender off the streets and into custody,” Chief Jeffrey Swoboda said in the statement.

Tasior was ordered held on a $250,000 bond Thursday, according to police.
