A man died early Sunday after he was pulled from a pond in west suburban Oak Brook.
Officers responded to a call of someone struggling in the water at the Briarwood Lakes subdivision about 6:35 a.m., according to a statement from Oak Brook police.
When authorities arrived at the scene, there was no sign of a struggling person, police said. A dive team went into the water and recovered an unresponsive 24-year-old man, identified as Isaac Martinez.
Martinez, of Glen Ellyn, was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Authorities believe he was in the water for about 30 minutes before the divers pulled him out.
Martinez’s disabled vehicle was found nearby on southbound Route 83 between I-88 and 31st Street. The subdivision where Martinez was found borders Route 83 to the east.
Police said it’s not yet known what led to Martinez entering the water.
