A 22-year-old man was fatally struck by a train Friday afternoon in Northwest Indiana.

A person was reported struck by a train about 3:25 p.m. near a railroad crossing at Englehart Street and Liverpool Road in Lake Station, according to the Lake Station Police Department. An investigation was being conducted.

The person struck was identified as Spencer Asbell of the 300 block of North Guyer Street in Hobart, Ind., according to the Lake County coroner’s office. Asbell suffered blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at 5 p.m.

A ruling on his manner of death was pending Saturday morning.
