Charges were pending against an 18-year-old man after two people were shot in the South Side Englewood neighborhood Sunday evening.

At 6:11 p.m., two groups of people began shooting at each other in the 7000 block of South Racine, Chicago Police said. A 33-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were both shot.

The man was shot twice in the abdomen and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition was stabilized, police said. The woman suffered a graze wound to the shoulder, but refused medical attention.

A police source said they were not believed to be the intended targets of the shooting.

An 18-year-old man was seen running from the area and arrested in the 7000 block of South Elizabeth, police said. A weapon was recovered and he was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition with a hand injury.

Charges were pending against the 18-year-old Sunday evening.
