One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting Saturday morning in northwest Indiana.

Officers were called about shots fired near 20th Avenue and Virginia Street in Gary about 8:30 a.m., according to a statement from Gary police. They arrived to find two 29-year-old men with gunshot wounds in an alley, one inside a vehicle and the other outside the vehicle.

The man inside the vehicle, Akeem Oliver, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Lake County coroner’s office. He lived in the 4200 block of West 20th Avenue in Gary.

The other man was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
