A man was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting last week in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

About 11:05 p.m. Friday, 26-year-old Taylon Hughes was sitting in a vehicle with a 40-year-old woman parked in the 4400 block of West Jackson when a light-colored van pulled up and someone in the back seat opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Hughes, who lived in the 11400 block of South Western, was shot in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Thursday ruled his death a homicide.

The woman was also shot in the head and later showed up at Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.
