A man was left in serious condition after he was shot in the Austin neighborhood Wednesday evening.
The 19-year-old was in the 5700 block of West Augusta about 6 p.m. when someone got out of a vehicle and shot him in the back and leg, police said. The shooter got back in the vehicle and drove off.
The man was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in serious condition, police said.
The man’s father and another man, who asked not to be named, were working on a car in a nearby garage when someone ran in and said: “Your son has been shot!”
Both men ran to the scene and found the 19-year-old lying inside a convenience store, bleeding from his back and leg, the man said. The 19-year-old was conscious when he was taken away by ambulance.
Shortly after the shooting, Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson arrived at a town hall meeting about three blocks away.
A person of interest was being questioned in connection with the shooting Wednesday night, police said.
