A man was seriously wounded in a shooting Wednesday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The 28-year-old was exiting a van about 10:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of West Maypole when shots rang out, according to Chicago Police.

He was shot in the abdomen and took himself to Loretto Hospital, police said. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
