A man died about 16 hours after he was shot early Tuesday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers on patrol about 1:05 a.m. spotted a crowd gathered around 25-year-old Terrance Johnson lying on the ground in the 5100 block of West Madison, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Johnson, who lived in the same neighborhood, had been shot in the head and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 5:14 p.m., authorities said.
