Man shot in Belmont Cragin

A 23-year-old man was shot Friday in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

At 3:01 p.m., the man was standing between another person and the shooter when shots were fired in the 5300 block of West Diversey, according to Chicago Police.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and took himself to Resurrection Medical Center in good condition, police said.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.
