Suspect in custody after man shot in South Shore

A suspect is in custody after a man was shot Wednesday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.

The 41-year-old man was in the 2900 block of East 79th Street at 12:53 p.m. when someone came out of a gangway with a handgun and fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

The victim was shot in the left leg, right leg and left ankle, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

Officers saw the gunman and after a brief chase, the 28-year-old man was taken into custody, police said. A weapon was recovered.

Charges were pending Thursday morning, police said.
