Man tries to rob Uptown bank

A man attempted to rob a bank Friday afternoon in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side.

The man tried to rob the American Metro Bank branch at 4878 N. Broadway at 12:30 p.m., according to FBI spokesman Garrett Croon. The incident was a non-takeover robbery attempt and no weapon was shown.

The suspect is described as a 40-to-50-year-old black man between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-9 and weighing 140 to 150 pounds, according to the FBI. He had brown eyes, wavy black hair and a bald spot in the front of his forehead. He was wearing a tan and gray plaid shirt with vertical white stripes.
