A man has been charged with fatally shooting another man at a bar Monday evening in west suburban Aurora.

Alfredo Soto, 48, was charged with first-degree murder, according to Aurora police.

Soto and two of his friends were drinking at the bar in the Latin American Club in the 1300 block of Dearborn Avenue about 6:40 p.m., engaged in “what appeared to be a normal conversation” with 31-year-old Martiniano Alvarez, a statement from police said.

Soto got up from the bar and walked to the front door, and told Alvarez to come with him, police said. When Alvarez walked toward the door, Soto pulled out a handgun and shot him several times.

Soto left the bar, got into his white pickup and drove away, police said.

Alvarez, of the 100 block of Laurel Drive in Aurora, was taken to an Aurora hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Club employees helped police identify Soto as the suspect, police said. He was taken into custody at his home in the 700 block of Iowa Avenue in Aurora shortly after the shooting.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
