A 21-year-old man was shot in the back early Tuesday in Roseland on the Far South Side.

He was outside just after midnight in the 11000 block of South Vernon when he heard shots and realized he’d been struck in the back, police said.

He took himself to Roseland Community Hospital where his condition stabilized, police said.

The man was found unresponsive in an alley in the 10700 block of South Lowe Avenue, police said.
The man suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.
