A man was struck by a freight train Wednesday morning in southwest suburban Chicago Ridge and Metra Southwest Service trains were delayed after the crash.

About 10 a.m., officers responded to the 6200 block of West 101st Street and found the man, 49, on the north side of the tracks, according to a statement from Chicago Ridge police. The man had suffered lacerations to his head and neck and also broke his shoulder.

The man didn’t respond when officers initially tried to communicate with him, but they later discovered he was hearing impaired, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said, but his condition was not disclosed.
