A 62-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a Metra train last week in west suburban La Grange has been identified.

Inbound train No. 1208, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 6:38 a.m. Thursday, struck a pedestrian about 6:15 a.m. between Gilbert and Brainard avenues in La Grange, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

The pedestrian, 62-year-old Cathy J. Balich of Summit, was killed, according to the La Grange Police Department. She was struck on private property about 300 feet east of the crossing at Gilbert Avenue.

Her death is believed to be a suicide, police said. Her belongings were found in a vehicle registered in her name on the street adjacent to where the crash happened.
