Woman fatally struck by Metra train in Highwood identified

A woman who was fatally struck by a Metra train on the Union Pacific North Line early Thursday near north suburban Highwood has been identified.

Inbound train No. 300, scheduled to arrive at Ogilvie Transportation Center at 5:23 a.m., struck a pedestrian shortly before 5 a.m. south of the Highwood station at 317 Green Bay Rd., according to an alert from Metra.

Leticia Bartolo Esquivel, 45, of Highland Park died after being run over by the train, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper, who said her death appears to be a suicide.
