A man died after being pulled from Lake Michigan Sunday afternoon in Rogers Park on the North Side.

Emergency crews were called at 2:14 p.m. to the beach at Loyola Park near Sheridan Road and Greenleaf Avenue, according to police and fire officials. A kayaker had brought the man to shore and started performing CPR by the time paramedics arrived.

Jonah Berele, 27, was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 3:13 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 2200 block of West Farwell.

An autopsy Monday did not rule on his cause and manner of death pending further studies.
