$200K bond for man charged with pointing gun at off-duty officer

Bond was set at $200,000 Tuesday for a 28-year-old man charged with pointing a gun at an off-duty Chicago Police officer Saturday afternoon in the South Deering neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Ivan Ayers pointed a gun at the officer about 4 p.m. in the 2400 block of East 105th Street, according to Chicago Police. A struggle then ensued and the officer fired one shot. No one was hit.

Ayers dropped his weapon and ran away, but was later arrested in the 10300 block of South Crandon, police said.

He was charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer and unlawful possession of a weapon, both felonies, police said.

Ayers, of the 6500 block of North Hoyne, appeared in court Monday, where a judge ordered him held on a $200,000 bond, according to Cook County Circuit Court records. He is due in court again Oct. 28.
