A west suburban man was killed and another man was seriously injured in a boating crash Friday night in Wisconsin.

Authorities were notified at 11:49 p.m. that a boat had crashed on the shore near Door Bluff Road in Liberty Grove, Wisconsin, according to a statement from the Door County sheriff’s office.

Vernon J. Rubenic, 54, of Oswego, was the owner of a 23-foot Powerquest boat, which crashed into a large rock on the shore, the sheriff’s office said. He was killed in the incident.

A 40-year-old man from Washington Island, Wisconsin, was seriously injured in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the sheriff’s office are investigating the cause of the crash.
