A panhandler died Monday after being struck by a car Saturday afternoon in the West Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side.

John Marrs, 53, was asking for money in the street at Peterson and Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota Prius, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Marrs was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital with pain to his neck and back, and was pronounced dead there two days later at 10:58 p.m. Monday, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He did not have a listed home address.

An autopsy Wednesday found he died of complications from multiple injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled an accident.
