A 76-year-old man died Sunday evening after he was struck by a Metra train in northwest suburban Woodstock.

Walter W. Banker was struck by a train about 6 p.m. on the Union Pacific-Northwest Line tracks near the Woodstock Station in the 300 block of East Lake Street, according to Woodstock police and the McHenry County coroner’s office.

Banker, of the 200 block of Seminary Avenue in Woodstock, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:15 p.m., according to the coroner’s office. An autopsy found he died of blunt trauma to the head, but toxicology tests are pending.

Woodstock police are investigating.
