A southwest suburban woman was killed and three other people injured in a multi-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on I-55 near downstate Pontiac.

The four-vehicle crash happened about 1:45 p.m. on I-55 northbound near the Route 23 exit in Livingston County, about 35 miles southwest of Joliet, according to Illinois State Police.

A 200 Honda Accord was driving southbound when it crossed the center median and struck a northbound 2003 Honda Odyssey, according to ISP.

The driver of the Accord – 20-year-old Ashley Borja of Plainfield – was ejected upon impact, though police said she was wearing her seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to ISP.

A 1999 Jeep and a 2013 Volkswagen were struck by debris from the collision.

The driver of the Odyssey, a 63-year-old Peoria woman and her 19-year-old passenger were transported to St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. The other drivers, a 59-year-old Dwight man and a 35-year-old St. Louis man were not injured.

Traffic was diverted from northbound I-55 for several hours, but all lanes were reopened at 6:06 pm.

No citations have been issued and the investigation is ongoing, according to ISP.
