One person was killed and seven others were wounded in shootings Wednesday on the city’s South and West sides.

A man fatally shot someone who was trying to rob him Wednesday night in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side, according to Chicago Police. The 22-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle with another male about 8:20 p.m. in the 4300 block of South State when two other males armed with handguns walked up and announced a robbery.

The man then pulled out a gun and shot one of the would-be robbers, police said. The male, whose age was not immediately known, was dead at the scene. The other suspect ran away. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death early Thursday.

The man had a valid concealed carry license, according to police. No one else was injured in the shooting.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 11:51 p.m. in the Southwest Side Archer Heights neighborhood.

Two men, ages 26 and 36, were walking on the sidewalk in the 4700 block of South Kedvale when another male walked up and fired shots, according to police. After he was shot, the vehicle he was driving crashed into a parked vehicle. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

About an hour before that, a man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. The 38-year-old was standing outside in the 6600 block of South Damen about 5:30 p.m. when he heard gunfire and ran inside a nearby business, where he realized he was shot in the shoulder, according to police. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, a man was seriously wounded in a West Garfield Park neighborhood shooting on the West Side. The 28-year-old was sitting in a vehicle in the 700 block of South Kedvale about 3:45 p.m. when someone shot him in the neck, police said.
