Police: 2 dead, 7 wounded in Wednesday shootings

Two people were killed and seven more were wounded in shootings across the city on Wednesday, according to Chicago Police.

The most recent fatal shooting happened about 10:20 p.m. in the Far South Side West Pullman neighborhood.

Police responding to reports of shots fired in the 12400 block of South Lowe found the 22-year-old man lying on a parkway with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death early Thursday.

The first fatal shooting happened about 20 minutes earlier on the Near West Side.

A 22-year-old woman was riding in a vehicle in the 200 block of South Oakley about 10 p.m. when a black four-door Hyundai pulled up alongside, police said. A male passenger then got out and shot her multiple times in the chest before he ran away and the Hyundai sped off. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but did not provide additional details.

In the most recent nonfatal shooting of the day, a man was wounded in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 27-year-old was shot about 11 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Artesian, police said. He was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the right foot, although his condition was not immediately known.

Less than an hour earlier, a woman was shot in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood.

The 20-year-old was shot in the right foot about 10 p.m. in the 9600 block of South Wentworth, police said. She was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition. Police said she was being uncooperative with investigators.

About 9:20 p.m., a man was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The 24-year-old was walking in the 2400 block of East 82nd when a male sitting on a park bench fired shots in his direction, police said. He suffered a graze wound and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition.

About a half hour earlier, two men were shot in the West Englewood neighborhood.

The men, ages 33 and 35, were shot in the 5600 block of South Honore about 8:50 p.m., police said. The younger man was shot in the buttocks and the older one was shot in the arm. Their hospital information was not immediately known.

About 8:22 p.m., a man was shot and seriously wounded in the Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 32-year-old was shot in the back in the 700 block of East 105th Place, police said. He took himself to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Wednesday’s first shooting happened when a teenage boy was shot through the window of a home in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The 17-year-old was in a home at 12:01 a.m. in the 3500 block of West Pierce when gunshots rang out on the street outside and a bullet came through the window and struck him, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg and his condition was stabilized.
