A 78-year-old woman was struck and killed by a UPS truck Monday afternoon in Pulaski Park on the Northwest Side.

Mayya Medovaya was in the crosswalk on Peterson Avenue when she was hit by the truck as it turned right from westbound Peterson onto northbound Central Park Avenue around 4:45 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The 64-year-old man driving the truck tried to render aid before paramedics arrived, police said.

Medovaya, who lived in the 5800 block of North Pulaski, was pronounced dead at Swedish Covenant Hospital at 5:04 p.m., authorities said.

Police said the driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
