The bodies of a 57-year-old woman and a dog were found Saturday afternoon in the water along the shoreline of Nippersink Lake in northwest suburban Fox Lake.

Officers were called about 2:45 p.m. to a report of a dead dog in the water of Nippersink Lake near the 200 block of Leisure Drive, according to a statement from Fox Lake police.

An officer checking the lake’s shoreline found the woman’s body, police said. She was identified as Mary T. Anton of the 100 block of Arthur Street in Fox Lake.

Anton was reported missing by her son Friday evening after he went to her house and found her and her dog missing, police said. Her phone and purse were found in the house. She was last seen by neighbors at her home about noon Friday.

There were no obvious signs of trauma to Anton or the dog, and a preliminary investigation found no signs of foul play, police said. Their investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy was inconclusive, pending further studies, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at (847) 587-3100.
