The body of a man discovered Wednesday morning in a lagoon in Columbus Park in the West Side Austin neighborhood has been identified.

The body was found at 9:34 a.m. Wednesday in the lagoon in the 500 block of South Central, according to Chicago Police.

He has been identified as 28-year-old Deantwan L. Newman of the Austin neighborhood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Thursday did not rule on his cause and manner of death pending further investigation.

Area North detectives are investigating.
