A 17-year-old boy and a 25-year-old man were each charged after police found a loaded handgun in a vehicle early Saturday in northwest suburban Elgin.
Police were investigating a suspicious person at 3:02 a.m. in the 1500 block of Dundee Avenue when they stopped a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old boy, police said. Police determined the driver was driving under the influence and he was arrested.
During a search of the vehicle, police found a loaded 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat.
The juvenile driver, of Elgin, was charged with felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon without a concealed carry license, use of a weapon by a person under the age of 21 and use of a weapon uncased and loaded.
Boun Gonzalez, 25, of the 1100 block of Mohawk Drive in Elgin, a passenger in the juvenile’s vehicle, was charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
