A man was fatally shot Thursday morning in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Malik Philpot, 20, was on the street about 10:35 a.m. in the 4200 block of West Washington when a group of people approached him and started shooting, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He ran away through a vacant lot and the attackers followed him to the 4200 block of West West End, they shot him multiple times in the abdomen, police said. The suspects then drove away, possibly in a van.
