An 84-year-old man was found dead and a woman critically wounded Thursday morning in an attempted murder-suicide in the Lake View neighborhood on the North Side, police said.

Yuriy M. Naroditskiy was found with a gunshot wound to the head inside a home in the 600 block of West Diversey about 9:15 a.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Naroditskiy, who lived on the same block, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:20 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Friday concluded that he died from a gunshot wound to the head, and his death was ruled a suicide.

An elderly woman, also with a gunshot wound to the head, was taken from the scene in critical condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.

Police said they are investigating the incident as an attempted murder-suicide.
