Bond was set at $250,000 for a woman charged with returning fire after a man was shot to death Saturday evening in the South Side Fuller Park neighborhood.

Ashley Harrison, 26, was sitting in a vehicle with 27-year-old Garvin Whitmore about 5:20 p.m. in the 200 block of West Root when someone walked up to the vehicle and shot Whitmore in the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Whitmore, of the 5800 block of West 63rd Place, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:29 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

Harrison got out of the vehicle, retrieved a weapon and fired it several times as the shooter ran away, police said. She then threw the weapon to the ground.

Harrison, of the 800 block of North Lake Street, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a FOID card, according to police.

She was ordered held on a $250,000 bond and is next scheduled to appear in court Friday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.

No one was in custody for the homicide as of Sunday morning, police said.
