Man dead, another critically injured in Southwest Side crash

One man was killed and another was critically injured in a crash early Thursday on the Southwest Side.

A car collided with a garbage truck shortly after 4 a.m. on Harlem Avenue near 63rd Street, according to Chicago Police and the Chicago Fire Department.

A passenger in the car, 26-year-old Luis A. Roman, was dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the Brighton Park neighborhood.

The driver of the car, a man thought to be in his 30s, was taken in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

The driver of the truck was not injured, police said.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit was still investigating the crash as of Tuesday morning.
