Police are warning residents of an attempted kidnapping Thursday afternoon in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
About noon, a 4-year-old girl was in the play lot of a school in the 2700 block of North Lockwood when a woman motioned to her while holding money through the fence, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.
The girl took the money and the woman asked for her name, police said. The girl then ran to her grandmother and told her about the incident, pointing out the woman, and the woman then ran to a green minivan.
The minivan sped away north on Lockwood, then west on Parker, but came circled the block two more times, police said.
The suspect was described as an English-speaking woman, thought to be between 20 and 35 years old, with dark-colored hair, police said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8200.
