A pregnant woman was killed and a man critically wounded in a South Chicago neighborhood shooting Sunday evening.

Shortly after 6 p.m., 19-year-old Parasha M. Beard and a 26-year-old man were sitting in a car parked in the 8700 block of South Marquette when another vehicle pulled alongside them and a gunman with dreadlocks opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The woman was shot in the neck, and the man suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and chest, police said.

They were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where Beard was pronounced dead at 6:52 p.m., authorities said. Her home address was unknown.

Law enforcement sources said the woman was about eight months pregnant, and that the baby was delivered.

The man was in critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Police said he has documented gang ties.

No one was in custody Sunday night as Area South detectives investigate.
