Chicago Public Library launches 1 million books giveaway for kids

The Chicago Public Library is ensuring that students continue learning throughout the summer while Chicago schools are on summer vacation.

The Chicago Public Library will launch its 10-week Rahm’s Readers Summer Learning Challenge on Monday to combat the “summer slide” for children who aren’t educationally engaged during the summer months.

The Chicago Public Library will give 12 free books to every child who registers for the program. A total of 1 million new or gently used books will be distributed this summer through the program as well as book giveaways hosted at branch libraries.

The theme of this year’s program is “Explore on the Go.” Participants can register for free at their local library branch.
